Went to look around for a cheaper 1911 .45 today.  I ended up looking at a few Rock Islands  and a couple springfield GI.  But I really want a 4" barrel.  I then went to  friends shop, and found an ATI commander, 4" 1911 for $395.  Has anyone had any experience with ATI 1911's in any form?  The fit and finish looks to be similar to the springfield GI 1911.  I am not looking to get a super nice pistol out of this.  I just want something reliable.  I will probably end up doing a few small modifications in the future, but just keeping it stock for a while.  Thanks for any input.

Is Centerfire a good company to do business with?  Best price for  RIA pistol?  I'm looking at the Compact model and liking it a lot.

To the OP, my brother and my father both have the SA GI and love them.  My dad actually carries it concealed and he's a skinny bastard.

I can't say about mail order but I live near Centerfire and have done a bit of in-person business. I have had no problems.
