| That appears to be a FTE, and the first culprit would be the (improperly tensioned) extractor. If this is a new pistol, Kimber needs to properly tension/replace the extractor and I would raise hell that they issue a call tag so you don't pay shipping if one isn't offered. If this is not a new gun, you can also try to properly tension the extractor yourself (there are 1001 resources on/off the internet on doing this). |

Here is a way to test your extractor. If checking with live ammo, do it at the range, facing in a safe direction. If checking at home, use dummy ammunition.
Chamber a round. Pull back on the slide gently, so as not to hit the ejector. Check to make sure the round tips down towards the ejector. If it does not tip forward and down, it is time to re-tension or get a new extractor. If it does function properly, check your chamber to see if there is leading in the chamber that may be producing undue pressure on the sidewalls of the case. If not, consult your local gunsmith. |
