I currently use Springfield TRP Operator for duty carry, Im sending it in to springfield to swap out the trigger for a flat one. I was also thinking of lightening up the trigger to about 3.5 lbs, would this be too light? the current weight is 4.5 - 5.0 lbs

I would leave it where it is.

If this is for duty carry it would be in your best interest to leave the trigger at factory setting.

You might have them fine tune the trigger to 4-4.25 and clean up any creep or over travel from it.  A fine tuned trigger to about 4.25 will feel almost like a 3.5 trigger so long is breaks clean.

I've seen a few people on here talk about putting flat triggers on their 1911s... what's the reasoning for a flat trigger?

I'm wondering the same thing.  Seems less ergonomic.

Different feel.  Some like it some do not.  I like long stocks on my rifles because I have long arms and they feel good to me some do not.  Just options like some like leather some like cloths seats in their cars.

I replaced my the Hammer Spring,Cup on my TRP. The trigger feels smoother and crisper now. It just might be all in my head but I'm happy.

Hmm maybe not 3.5 lbs still thinking 4.0 lbs will be good, after SA takes care of the flooding

Id wonder what the Department policy is first and second 4lbs is perfection to me. If youre just swapping triggers though why send it to SA? Its a simple job.

Trigger pull weight isn't as important as creep/reset/crispness of break.  If the trigger is very repeatable as far as the trigger break then I'd leave it as is, if you don't like the feel then I'd get the job done, but you also might consider getting rid of the ILS and running a normal MSH setup, that should help trigger weight as well.

We don't have policy regarding trigger weight, I was advised there will be some fitting issues that's why I have to send it in. Lol I don't know much about taking apart 1911s lol

As advised above, if you said it's for duty carry, I would leave it factory (trigger pull weight).
