I went to the store for a couple of ammo cans and this followed me home. I need to call Colt on Monday to get a little bit of info on it because the very little I can find online is a bit mixed. A friend of mine had one of these about 12 years ago and it was a sweet shooter. What do you all think?

Don't know a lot about the Recon's but all I can say is damn. There sure have been quite a few members finding some nice used Colt's lately.

Looks like a Series 80 Colt... Officer slide mounted over a full frame, the Colt interpretation of a Springfield Champion. They have made similar 3.5"/full frame offerings before or after this one (night officer and tanker models spring to mind). It certainly holds some sort of value as an oddity or rare Colt. As a practical pistol it's too short up top to be a service/duty pistol and too long down below to be a deep cover CCW. That makes it a wash in my book, or a roundabout way of saying it's as worthwhile a pistol as you (the buyer) deem it.

Looks like an Officer size frame to me.  It looks an awful lot like my series 80 Officer except the grips are wood on mine.

ETA....went to the safe and got out the Officers Model.  Same as your Recon, mine has a darker parkerization and walnut grips with a gold Colt medallion.  Mine has a little more wear, I carried it for a long time.

ALL other 1911's are interpretations of a Colt.

I called Colt this morning and the customer service lady was very helpful. The Colt Recon was a Special Edition manufactured in 1996. They made 487 of them. I can't wait to put some rounds down range.

Nice grab.  Looks like she could use a tune up but I would have jumped on it.

Looks like a full length grip with an officer length dust cover and slide/ barrel.

There were a lot of small runs of oddball series 80s in the 1990s.

Lew Horton did a bunch of them. I bet that it shoots great.
