Wondering if anyone knows which type/size of front site tenon Springfield uses.  I've heard that some get a slightly larger size and file it to fit.  What is entailed in staking on a new sight?  How to remove old one?  Is this something the average kitchen-table hobbyist can do or does it require specialized tooling?  Is this style ok or is a dovetailed sight more desirable?

Thanks

Yes, the Springfield tenons are a different size (0.082") than the original Colt's or newer Colt's.  Do you have a vise, pads, a staking tool, and a small file?  It is not hard too do, but you need tools.

I like King's sights.  They also sell the staking tool.

Springfield used a "medium" tenon, between the width of Colt's wide and narrow tenons.   Lots of folks buy a wide tenon sight and file the tenon to fit.  I believe someone also made a medium tenon sight for a while, but I don't recall who.

I made a staking tool in about 30 mins at work one night.  It ain't as pretty as brownells, but I think it will work.
