| I have a Colt Series 70 and I am trying to find a good gunsmith. Most of the well-known houses have wait times of 1-2 years and I am curious if there are any smiths out there who do good 1911 work but without the long wait times. Any leads would be appreciated. |

I'd say of the features you want in a smith... pick one. Fast = not good or cheap Good = not fast and not cheap Cheap = fast and not good Call Springfield's Custom Shop, else their are a couple smiths on here that could do the work too. |

I used a local smith that has been at it for years. She did a great job and was done in about 9 weeks and will get more work from me. I'd love to send one to Heirloom or one of the other well known smiths, but 18-24 months is a pretty long wait. From everything I've seen and heard, the Springfield Custom Shop is a fine choice as well. |

My idea is a work in progress but so far I have in mindthe following:
1.Front strap checker to 25 lpi 2.Mag well with machine checkered MSH 3. Trigger job to 4 lbs 4. Novak sights 5. Tune extractor 6. Match barrel and bushing 7. Lower/bevel/flair back ejection port 8. Polish feed ramp and throat barrel 9. Full length guide rod 10. Tighten slide/frame fit 11. Ambi safety 12. Ambi mag release 13. Commander hammer 14. beavertail safety |

Ambi mag release 13. Commander hammer You are really going to rack up a bill here. I think the advice of buying it already made the way you want makes a lot of sense. You won't lose the use of your current firearm, you can sell your current firearm to offset some of the cost, and Colt Series 70 pistols have a value in their own right left as original. 14. beavertail safety |
