| Looking at purchasing my first 1911. I want to get the best gun for the money (~$1000). I was originally looking at getting a SA Loaded but the TRP has caught my attention. TRP is more then I wanted to spend, but I'd rather spend the money now then upgrading later. Are there any models that can compete in roughly the same price range? This would be my go to gun for all general purposes, HD, target, ccw. |

That said, when I priced out the changes I wanted to make It was WAY above what the Loaded cost and the loaded has about 90% of the upgrades I was planning on making. Buy once, cry once is true when it comes to 1911's. |

Go to Bud's Guns, they usually have a decent selection of 1911's for under $1000.
I just ordered a GI model from them for $516 delivered, when you see what you want in stock you better grab it. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php |

MC Operator or TRP if you can find a decent price on them. They seem to be getting priced out of reason. I havent seen a whole lot of the Brazilian pistols looking that good lately. Extractors sticking way out, slides overhanging the frame just dumb stuff. Even crooked hammers. Makes me question the rest of the pistol. |

I have owned a Springfield loaded and currently have a TRP. I think the TRP is well worth the extra money. If you added all the extras to the loaded, it would outprice the TRP, and my TRP is fit much better than my loaded was and is more accurate in my hands. When I was looking, I seriously considered the Dan Wesson Valor also. It is a great 1911 from what I hear, though I've never handled one. In that price range the TRP and Valor are the two I would pick. For a bit more, you used to be able to find used Les Baer Thunder Ranch Specials, but I think the have had a price increase lately.
You'll end up with more than one eventually, anyway. |

The Colt Combat Elite is a nicely set up 1911, complete with single-sided thumb safety, beavertail grip safety, and combat hammer. I've seen it at gunshows for under $850, brand new. It has a blued slide and a stainless frame.
The Springfield Loaded is probably the best value out there. It is essentially the Combat Elite in a cheaper (but very durable) finish (parkerized). The STI Spartan is also a fantastic 1911, set up very well and offered at a great price. |

The 3 front runners are SA TRP, SA MC Operator, and Kimber Warrior. What are you opinions on these models? How do there accuracy compare?
Also, what kind of finish should I go with. I have read that SS seems to have the best overall protection and small scratches can be buffed out. How well does the TRP AK hold up? |

Depends on which one but Springfield is a better value than the Kimber. For the warranty alone if anything else. And if theres a problem, which is a possibility with mass produced 1911s. Well any or so it appears SA is actually able to fix it if there is, Kimber cant seem to fix a pistol for some screwed up reason. Me I dont need a rail, it makes buying holsters a bitch around here. But then again I dont need another EDC 1911 so I would probably buy the MC in my situation. |
| For under $1000, this is my next 1911: http://www.shootingillustrated.com/Guns/Semi-Auto_Pistols/DoubleStar1911.html |

TRP should be the most accurate with the MC and kimber tied. |

For under $1000, this is my next 1911: http://www.shootingillustrated.com/Guns/Semi-Auto_Pistols/DoubleStar1911.html Ain't gonna happen for under $1000 unless you pick one up used. Dealer cost is within a few dollars of that. I paid $1100 OTD for mine. It's a great pistol out of the box though. My only gripe is they don't sell them with night sights. |
