Well, it's no secret I am not a 1911 fan, but this is more about a magazine than a 1911, but then, it is also about a 1911...
My Dad was the only one shooting a 1911 at the CCW class he and I attended today. He used the LesBaer that he owns. It is a 5" TRS. I had previously fired the weapon about 6 months ago and it did fine. Although, I only fired 1 or 2 mags through it. Fast Forward to today: The 1911 had been left loaded (8 round Les Baer mag) since I fired it. That mag had several hundred rounds through it, the weapon has been shot about 800 times total, split between 2 or 3 mags. It had been left fully loaded for say, 6 months, since I last shot it. The G17 I brought had been left loaded for a year or more, although it had been shot a few weeks ago, the 1 mag spent the last year + loaded. Long story short, the only gun with a malfunction today was the 1911. It failed to feed the last round every time my Dad got to the last round. Instructors claimed it was a weak mag spring (which wasn't weak 6 months ago, and had not been shot since). I guess this re-affirms that the 1911 has a much smaller tolerance for imperfection, and that yes, springs CAN go bad just setting up, contrary to what science and all that has to say about it. Ammunition used in both weapons today was ball ammo. Winchester 230gr in the 1911, and Winchester 115gr in the G17. *rant off* |

So the moral of the story here. Change magazine springs once a year or have your Dad send his Les Baer to me and I will in return send him a brand spanking new Glock <edit, in a caliber> of his choosing. btw: I too have never bought into modern mettalurgical springs don't give out bullshit theory either.

With due sincerity 12_gauge. You and Roque4 (my oldest offshoot) should get together sometime. If he's with me, shooting one of my 1911s it runs like a machine pistol. I let him take that same pistol home and within minutes of him returning to Texas I start getting phone calls about " this piece of shit 1911 ". It jams, it won't cycle, I just shot a hole in my ceiling, the firing pins too long, your trigger job sucks, I can't get it to feed. " I go down to Texas and get the gun and carry it for a year. ZERO failures. I'm tallking amost 10,000 rounds. Just ran 500 flawless rounds through it last week . Carry the gun every day ! It's holstered on my side now ! Hand it back to him while I'm present and it works GREAT ! Just like a machine pistol should work. Leave him alone with it and damned if he's got it fucked up again. 1911s aren't for everyone. I never could leave him alone with a fly rod either.

+1, Les Baer makes a nice pistol, but the mags that come with them pretty much suck. The springs are weak even when new, and the followers are flimsy. I have also had malfunctions (inertia feed) on the last and second to last round using LB mags. My Baer runs fine with just about any other brand mag.

Les Baer mags suck. My TRS using Brown/Wilson/ACT mags will run all day long with any Glock. ETA A Glock will choke with shitty mags too. |

The object is not to create a 'machine pistol'.

Pistolwretch, I move that you and 1911smith swap usernames in order to bring harmony to the universe and balance to the Dark Side.

I've never been over to the Glock forum, but are we sending anyone over there to even out the trolling that happens in here? I go into the Glock forum every once in a while just to look around, never to troll. I have seen one guy go into a post and comment to the OP that if he didn't like his Glock .45, he should try a 1911 or a Sig...that was a mistake. There is a guy on the Glock forum that is very well known for ripping the holy hell out of anyone that says even the slightest foul thing about a Glock. He must really believe that it is a divine weapon by the way he talks about it. Anyways, your answer is no, trolls only come into this forum. |

Trolls are just annoying maybe we should just ignore the post they make and not reply to them This is a reply to everyone but the OP because no one likes him right now. I'm sure he thought to himself "what is it with these guys, I come in here to make an honest tech post about an issue I had with a 1911, and they dogpile me"..... Imagine if we strolled into the beloved Glock forum and posted some such similar nonsense. Really I am fine with all of you Glock trolls buying your Glocks. It just means more material left over to make guns actually made of steel. |

You send Roque4 one of your 1911s wretch. There's a story about valve covers and spacer plates on a Caterpilar engine that needs to be told here. But Roque4 is tired of hearing about it. |
