My Colt Government no longer has an untarnished record. It had gone ~4 years and many thousands of rounds without a single issue (it has the highest round count of anything I own excepting my sporting shotgun). But of course it just had to fail today, as it was the first time I bring it out to a major match (KY USPSA SS/Prod Match). Two FTFs - or at least I think they were both FTFs. The first might have been an indavertant, early slidelock, as the slide was pretty far back still. It's not like I'm going to sit there and stare at it, and the remedy is the same. I'd say the malfs likely due to the combination of being rather dirty and my relatively recent change to a lighter recoil spring for competition. Of course, it didn't fail in the two local matches I shot it in before this one.
One of the two happened at the worst possible time - immediately after the first shot on a Texas Star. I still managed to take 2nd in C - the separation with 1st was fairly large, so at least I can take some comfort in the fact that it was me, and not those malfs that kept me in 2nd. |
