Hello,

I have a SA GI 1911. It was used & had some work done to it. Seems like it had something with the barrel done(engraved under the slide) & something with the trigger. I found this out after I bought it last year. Shoots great & I'm happy with the flawless performance of it in over 1K rounds.

When I cleaned it last I noticed the trigger was loose. Like I could wobble it around & had a lot of slack in it. Seemed to shoot just fine. I think it's gotten worse over the course of shooting it.

Anyone know if I need to tighten it? Or is there a way to do that. I don't know much about 1911's. Maybe it's normal?
I guess I need to strip it down & see if anything is worn or broken?

Thanks

Tighten no
Replace and fit new trigger yes.

I would say call SA first and see if they will replace it.

If it is the original trigger then it is completely normal.  I owned a GI but sold it, but I do currently own a SA Mil-Spec which is just a slightly enhanced GI.  And the Triggers on both will rattle if the gun is shaken.  They easily move up and down about two milimeters each direction.  Even the triggers on my Colt Series 70s have some play.

Now that being said, I also agree with Edge, that replacing it and having a custom trigger job done is not a bad idea.  There is nothing wrong with the GI triggers, but they don't feel nearly the same as an aluminum match grade trigger tuned to break at 3-4lbs.  But you don't have anything to worry about if it just has the normal amount of play that all GI triggers do.

I think it has a trigger job done of some sort. I had several 1911 people shoot it & they commented that it felt like it did.
IDK, but yeah it seems to move around & rattle as described.
Still shoots great for me. If there nothing wrong with it I'll leave it alone. I'm not too interested in messing with it.

Is it a very short trigger with no holes like this?

Or long and aluminum in color like this:

If it is short and black......chances are that it is the original trigger and you are cool.  If it is aluminum and feels like it breaks very easily (4lbs or so) then it probably has a trigger job.  If you do in fact have a trigger job that has creep and play, I would look at getting it fixed.

I have picked up a few GI's and Mil-Spec SA pistol and dry fired them and they felt pretty good I have to say.  Nothing like my Grand Raptor but they felt good for a basic pistol.

You are good.  That is a mil-spec trigger.  It is going to have some play, especially up and down.  Perfectly normal.

I like the finish.  looks like Sniper Grey

Just pulled my un-mollested SA Loaded out of waist band, it's trigger moves about 1/8" up/down and quite a bit side-2-side. The trigger really only pushes the sear. Not much, IMO, can go wrong with a trigger.
