Pretty much decided I need one for carry. Need the field narrowed down a bit & the only real requirements are:
NO Bobtail, bushing gun & I would like to have a hight beavertail already installed so I don't have to mess w/ it. Even thinking about a .38 super after I fondled an old one this weekend. (New in box condition, w/ box, manual etc.) from 50 -60 years ago! Too damn nice to abuse. Who has one & any reccomendations? I have 4 5" 1911's but never messed w/ the commanders |

I can pick up the old .38 super probably for $1000. But I would have to tinker w/ it to be comfortable carrying it & it would be a damn shame to alter it in any way. The new colts have front serrations though correct? (forgot to add that to the list. do not like.) Kimbers out due to the bull barrel set up. A buddy has one & while I have nothing against kimber, i don't care for it. Shoots like a mother though. |

I have been doing the same search, and also decided on the fusion.
I figured new colt with the mods I wanted would finish out around 1200 to 1500. Fusion quoted me a new one without front serations, stainless etc for right at 1600. The extra hundred is worth it to me. But it is like an 8 month wait. |

I have an XSE and 1911PD. Both are light, accurate, and reliable with ball and HP.
The front serrations on the Colt are mean (eat leather holsters) and it has the duckfoot duckbill safety. I have no problem with the safety but I wish it did not have the front serrations. The front serrations on the Smith are tame and do not bother leather. It is blue though and it has a completely functional external extractor. I would buy either again tomorrow if needed. Both can be had for under $1000. |

Well, for the $$ I think It's going to be a fusion commander Kit or the old .38 super.
& I think I'm leaning towards the super. I have enough full size guns & am looking for something else to carry. The old super will/may need a beavertai & sights, But what the hell. Have to shoot her a bit first & see. |
I know I'm probably going to be the oddball here but, I love my S&W 1911PD. Pretty reasonably priced as well. Will eat any ammo I throw at it. Accurate too. You can get them with Crimson Trace grips stock if you wanted to go that route. Novak's Lo Pro sights are very nice on that setup.
