what is fair market value for a used SA 1911?
i'm looking to buy one at a fun show this weekend. |

I would not, and have not given more that 500 dollars for one. They are harder to find at that price, but I have found a few over the past couple years. I picked up one just the other day for 475. +1 if its ~$500, even i'd try to pick it up...its been very rare for me to see a mil-spec here, let alone for one under ~$625+; more online sometimes... |

It's rare to see SA GI's at $400. They sell at $500 new, but they just don't depreciate that much.
Not to mention that any table at the gunshow will probably have $100 thrown in on top of it for their back pocket. Good Luck. I would suggest looking online for one. Probably even saving up another $100 and buying a new one from Bud's Guns and having it transferred to a dealer near you. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Used SA GI is a pretty rate duck. You are NOT going to find one for $400. At least around here. You can get a new Rock Island Armory for about $400. Been happy with mine. Some new grips and it "looks" GI. who is this rock island armory? never heard of them... |

Imports 1911's from the Phillipines, Armscor to be exact. Very good basic 1911. Lots of people run them, rarely hear any complaints about them on this board. And this tends to be a tough crowd. Don'[t think I've ever seen a used one, which tells me something. I picked one up recently. Put an arched mainspring housing on it (which I greatly prefer), some USGI Keyes Fibre grips, and some larger sights (old eyes can't deal with GI sights). Haven't run a lot of rounds thru it, but been happy with it so far. Gun, new, was $385 plus tax at one of the Iowa shows. |

AR's are my thing. thanks for the info though. greatly appreciated. |

I misread your question and thought you were looking for a milspec, and not a GI. GI should be 25-50 less than milspec. I don't see myself giving more than 450 for a GI. no, that was my bad. i misstated my question. i'm looking for a base 1911. i thought that was the mil-spec one. turns out it's the GI model. like i said... i'm new to this scene. but the 1911 appeals to me for the same reason the AR platform does. #1: it;s a military weapon #2: it's flexible in configuration. |

Ok, base GI type 1911's Springfield makes one. Rock Island Armory/Armscor. Auto Ordnance (don't recommend). Crusader, made in Turkey I believe. Colt 1991A1. Probably a few others.
For the money, as a starter 1911, RIA is hard to beat. You'll probably out grow at some point, but it's a good place to start. |

I want a plain-Jane 1911A1, something like what was issued in WWII. I didn't let on to him that I want one, he has a tendency to think his guns are worth a lot more than they actually are. |

i just discovered the citadel 1911. i think this is the way to go for me since people don't get rid of there SA 1911. what's the hive mind say? Don't get the citadel. I have never shot one, so i don't have an opinion on it. I think its worth waiting for a SA GI to show up. The SA is worth it for the customer service. Its not worth jumping at the first 1911 you see just because its available. Mark my words, if you buy that citidel, in a few weeks you will see a SA in your price range and you'll wish you could get it. edit: IM sent |

Agree with this - bought one about 10 years ago, first round downrange was 2 inches left of center. Good gun and am happy with it, but am going to get a Springer WWII GI as my next 1911. |
