Hello all

I was just curious what most of you set the trigger pull weight on your carry 1911 guns?

I like mine set to run 2.75 to 3.25 LBs, I have been getting some raised eye brows as of late when I tell some one who wants to know.

Then I let them shoot it and they are wow what a great trigger!

Most will tell you that's way to light for a carry gun.  Four to five is probably closer to the norm.

Mine are all tuned to about 4# that is for range, carry, and everything in general.  I can get the job done with a 4# trigger that breaks nice and clean.

3.5lbs is plenty light for a carry. If you were to tell me for example thats what your running in your carry you'd get the same raised eyebrow. A properly done trigger with all engagement areas stoned by quality stones, finished with a ruby stone will have a clean, crisp, light pull at 4lbs.

ETA:^^ and feel like 3lbs ^^

I have an Ed Brown 1911 that is too light, IMHO, to use as a carry gun. I do not know the weight, as I do not have a guage. But when I am at the range, I can tell its too light for carry.

I actually sent it back to get re-bead blasted, and when it came back to me, it seems that they tweaked the trigger, as the pull was a little lighter.

I don't want a carry gun with too light of a trigger. I bought the brown as a range gun anyway, so it doesn't matter.

2.75 sends more people home than wins matches.

That glass breaking feeling makes that 4# just right.  I have never needed a lighter trigger then 4 although a good friend of mine has a really light trigger on his and I hate shooting it because I feel like I am shooting a long range target rifle.  Try a "well" tuned 4-5# trigger and tell me you are not in love.

If you want to carry it, install a heavier hammer spring.

...and in the interest of full discloser, one is JUST under 4# (had to have it bumped up a little after the trigger job...), and the other hasn;t been put on a scale,  but is about the same.

Ok, thanks for the advice.
