I just got a new Dan Wesson CBOB and I am having trouble removing the barrel bushing.

The kit came with bushing wrench.  It seems to be to tight.  I cant move the bushing unless the wrench is on it.
I Turn the bushing clockwise pull the spring out and when I turn it counter clockwise to get it out cant pull it out.
Just for the record I do have another 1911 springer milspec and have no trouble.  I know these guns are really tight but
any tips would be great.  I can pull the slide off the frame.  I havent spent to much time on it yet because I want to shoot it first
and disassemble it for cleaning.

Is this common?

Thanks

I'd leave it be.

Really?  How will I clean the barrel properly.

I just wipe down what I can see and hit with a cotton swab. I don't ever put a brush or anything through my 1911 barrels. Then again, I don't shoot lead reloads.

oil the bushing and work it a few times thru it full range of movement. A tight bushing fit is a good thing.

Mine is very tight as well.  I took some doing to get it apart the first time.  I imagine it will loosen up with use.

Once the spring is out, turn it all the way counter clockwise and then tap it out with the bushing wrench.   Once it it pops out a bit you can see where to turn it to get it out so that the notch is free.   It is tight as fuck, and that worked just fine on my initial tear down.

I've also heard that you can take the barrel and slide it towards the front of the slide to get any pressure off the bushing from the barrel while trying to remove the bushing.

The one on my Valor is really tight.  You do have to take it off and put it back on.  I don't have any tricks.. just patience.  I have to admit I'm tempted to use a metal bushing wrench, but that's probably a bad idea.

You can get brass bushing wrenches.

thanks guys  i gotta work on it.  I will let you know how it goes.

I just wanted to make certain that if it spins (no matter how hard it is) it will come out.

If you can get it lined up.. it will come out.  Just don't break your fingernail like I did (ouch).

Also, if you aren't doing so already, try removing the slide first and take out the recoil spring/plug.  That removes some tension on the bushing.

Kind of liking the cylinder and slide aluminum bushing wrench for the next gun stuff online order.
