I ordered a EGW HD extractor and had a few questions about the fitting process.
I started off my making sure everything fit at the rear (firing pin stop). Then I tried to tension it to where it would just hold a round in place against the breech face. I could not tension it enough to touch the case so I removed some material from the area show in red to allow the claw to set deeper into the breech. It took a good bit of material to get it to fit right. I have hand cycled several magazines through it and it seems to be working fine. My main question is did I do anything worng by removing that material? Everything I have seen says to just tension it. I haven't shot it yet but wanted yalls input before I did.
Thanks.

Nope.  If the extractor belly won't reach the case rim, you've got to remove material from that area to allow the hook to come over.

Well, Just noticed something. The extractor claw seems to be holding in the extracted case not the belly of the extractor.. The claw is so long that the rim of the case cannot ride in the belly of the extractor. For 45, I have seen that this is not recommended. Any advise?

Dress the tip of the hook down until the rim contacts the belly of the extractor.

I just did that. There's not enough belly on the extractor to contact the case. In order to touch the belly I would have to file the claw down to almost nothing.
Im lost here.

Got it close enough. Everything looks right. Took it out and put 200 rounds thorugh it with no problems. Its ejecting about 10 feet at 4:00.
It better last forever, that was a frustrating little thing.
