hello
Well I have been looking for a 10mm in a 1911 and I would like some opinions two I have been looking into.

I don't want to buy a 2 or 3000 dollar 10mm 1911 until I know I will like that cal in 10mm.
So I was cking into the Kimber line.
Eclipse custom II and the stainless Target II .

I would at some time  carry this gun if I can get it to work reliable.
I have not had good luck with kimbers in the past.
I have however heard that the 10mm  Kimber is a good dependable gun?

So does any one have any experience with these and which one would you recommend and Why?

  Thanks

Not even considering the Colt Delta Elite?

If I were going to get a 10mm that is the one I would choose.

Well yes I would are they in the price range of the two Kimbers I mentioned?
I'll look at them on the colt web page.
And also was there a problem with them cracking frames or something?

If you are going to carry it just get a .40.  Over penetration of a 10mm = major liability issues with a carry gun.

I have been carrying a g20 for a few years now and it's fine but I like the 1911 when I carry a 45ACP it's 1911.
I like the 10mm for carry thats the Idea of looking for a 1911.

What Liability Issues, I've been in and around Le for many many years and I don't understand what you mean? There are no liability issues with carrying a 10mm!
No more then any other gun you carry to protect yourself and your family.
If you should ever need to use the gun you carry there will be consequences rather you have 9mm,10mm,45acp or 40 cal.

It won't make any difference in court what cal you used if it's a good clean act of self defense you will be fine in the end.

I carry a G32 shooting .357 Sig and I do not worry about over penetration because even a 9mm, 40SW, 10mm, or .45ACP/GAP will penetrate an avg human body and come out on the other side.  Most ammo now days is designed to penetrate over 12in and most crackhead drug addicts are less then that.

When you worry about over Penetration you are concerned about the wrong thing. What is more of a concern is the shot/shots you miss. As you said most all will penetrate more than the body is thick thats the first time other then myself that has ever recognized that fact. Worry more about staying alive and hope you never need to use your carry weapon!

I would shoot .32ACP or .380 if I was concerned about over penetration.

Crackheads are about the only American's less than 12inch in thick .  Anyway, carry what you will.  The reason I don't like 10mm for carry is because I have seen 40sw rounds go through things that I didn't think that it would go through and it went through like butter.  Since 10mm is essentially a hot 40sw round it will go through even more.  To me, if you are going to carry a 1911, the .45 travels much slower but still packs a punch because of the bullet weight.  A big slow bullet that is designed to mushroom or fragment is much less likely to overpenetrate a bad guy or a wall (if you miss) than a smaller bullet that is going 500-800 ft/s faster.  Besides, unless you are reloading or spending a fortune to shoot full loads then you are most likely going to get light 10 MM loads (FBI loads) which are practically 40sw anyway.  The good news is that you are paying more for the ammo .  My opinion only.  There is a reason no one pays me for it so take it for what it is worth

First thanks for your opinion.
Second take a yrd stick stand against the wall and see how thick you are.
I work out daily because I am into and Instruct the martial arts. I have a 52 inch chest and when I stand against the wall with a yard stick I'm about 12.5 inches thick.
I never shoot any thing but full hot 10mm rds, if I wanted anything less I would have bought a 40Cal but I just don't care for the round personally.
I think a person should carry what they are easy with and practice practice will make all the difference.
45ACP is one of my very favorite rds  as far as JHP in a 45 they will expand but they will tend to not expand with a high percentage due to the slower speed. Where as I have found you take a 10mm DT 135 gr moving 1600 Fps will expand and blow up all the time. If it does go thru the target it's only  small pieces that will make it thru.

First and foremost, if you have a 52 inch chest, you are right no matter what because I have a 40 inch chest and I don't want you to cave it in

I think that the 45 expansion is like any other round in that you have find a good round that works and not one that claims to work.  Hornady's new self defense ammo is suppose to be fantastic in terms of expansion because of a new technology they use.  However, I haven't tested it myself.

This is why I use what the FBI uses the new Winchester PDX1 Supreme Elite.  I have shot it and never had a FTF or FTE, they will tear up a tree (shot a old dying tree), and they meet and exceed all the FBI tests.

Another +1 for the Dan Wesson.  I have a PM7 10mm and love it.  IMHO a much nicer gun than the Kimber and as nice or nicer than the Delta Elite.
