What is a good web site to go to so that I can learn the differences between correct USGI 1911s and 1911A1s? I know there are differences int he slides, triggers, frames, ect. but I don't know how to spot an original from a mix master. |

Quoted: No, I am looking for how to identify the correct parts on a 1911 and the correct parts on the 1911a1. For example, I know there are early slides and late slides for the 1911 (but how do I tell the difference?). I am sure there are other things that could be 1911, but not necessarily correct for the 1911 frame on the pistol.Do you mean the 1911 vs the 1911A1???? Wikipedia has the differences on it if you search the 1911 pistol. Also a straight up google search will return you the answer. |

When it comes to collectible firearms, the internet doesn't offer all the answers like we're used to. The exception is guns that have become popular SINCE the advent of the internet, such as the AR15, the AKMs, and the Mosin rifles. You can literally learn anything you want on the web, and printed books are usually out of date before they hit the shelves.
If you want detailed, sourced information on firearms people have been collecting for years, such as USGI weapons, German WWII stuff, S&Ws, etc. –– most of the detailed info is in actual print books that you will have to buy unless you can convince someone to look something up for you. If there are web sites, they're usually ancient, hard to use, and will eventually try to get you to buy a book. |

Quoted: We have several knowledgeable members in this regard, as do other sites. Your best bet is to post your question and wait for the replies. Well darn. I was hoping to be able to do some research since I'll be shopping for a 1911 soon. How can I tell if I'm looking at a $500 mixer or a $2,000 correct Colt? Is it just a guessing game? |

All you have to do is invest in the proper literature giving you the information that you seek. Otherwise such FREE information comes from waiting for those who have it to divulge it to you on an internet forum. ![]() |

Taken from Wikipedia
Battlefield experience in the First World War led to some more small external changes, completed in 1924. The new version received a modified type classification, M1911A1. Changes to the original design were minor and consisted of a shorter trigger, cutouts in the frame behind the trigger, an arched mainspring housing, a longer grip safety spur (to prevent hammer bite), a wider front sight, a shorter spur on the hammer, and simplified grip checkering by eliminating the "Double Diamond" reliefs.[4] Those unfamiliar with the design are often unable to tell the difference between the two versions at a glance. No significant internal changes were made, and parts remained interchangeable between the two. Wikipedia Source I can't imagine shooting the M1911 being a favorable experience compared to a M1911A1. |

North Cape Publishing has the book you need, and you do need the book. Way to much to look at for just a website. Cost is about $20.00. Money will spent, it will save you at least that much in the long run.
Google "North Cape" and you'll find them. Or pick up a Shotgun News, they always have an ad. |
