I don't have the green version but I do have two GI's. One being a basic stainless the other has the YoBo 1* package. They shoot good and have been reliable.

I got a used one a few years back. It's been 99.99% reliable. I did get it to stovepipe on me once, after running it bone dry with Wolf ammo for an afternoon.

But otherwise I love it. I've got some plans for modding it, but I keep putting it off –– the thing shoots so darn good.

Probably the best bang for your buck in a basic 1911 out there. Good job.

Any pics?

I was wondering the same thing myself. I like the looks of the GI and the price, I think its going to be the one I end up getting as well.

I love mine.  Mine is in the OD finish too.

It was a "mistake" that I got the OD GI.  Went in to my funshop w/ the intention to buy a 1911.  Well, being a good college student, I choose the cheapest quality 1911 that they had.  It was between the stainless GI and the OD GI.  The OD GI was about $50 less, so thats what I went with.

Over the years, I have run into very few OD GI45.  Most of the SA 1911 that are in the OD finish are the higher end guns.  I like the good contrast between the grips and the OD, very sharp looking.  One thing I don't like is the big "US" grips.  Mine has been 99.99% too.  I remember having a couple of failures in the begining, also with Wolf ammo.  But once I stopped using Wolf and started using other brass ammo, it has been 100%.  Very accurate for just the small GI sights.

One thing that I've plan on doing over the years was to upgrade the sights, but haven't gotten around to doing that.  The reason - my dad claims it as his bedstand gun now .  He liked it so much after shooting it, that I figured I'd just give it to him and move on.  I do still get to shoot it once in a while...and did I mention I love that gun.

eta: I'm thinking about picking up another GI to upgrade as time/money permits into what I want

I do not own one but I have shot several Springfield’s including the GI model. The GI is a very good pistol with standard GI features at a good price. You can buy cheaper 1911s but they are not of the same quality. The GI and Mil Spec models are comparable to some of the other top 1911 makers that cost anywhere from $200-$500 more.

GI is a great base gun. After fingering both of them, I went with a Mil Spec. I think for the small difference in price you alot more gun.

some range results with the gi 45,  only reloads on hand so next time will try out some factory loads.  heavy trigger so might need some breakin in

Seems to be on par with what I've seen with mine.

That 25yd group looks pretty decent for a GI.

How long were you pausing to aim between shots?

I like mine a lot but it had some "growing pains." The barrel/bushing were bad and had to be replaced on Springfield's dime because it was shooting low. Later on, I realized the trigger pull was way out of spec. It was over 9 pounds when it should be 5-6, so I sent it back to Springfield again, which they paid for. I also had to tune the extractor because it was having some FTE's. Furthermore, it wasn't feeding hollowpoints very well, so I fixed that by taking some fine sandpaper and polishing the feed ramp a bit.

Now it's very reliable and accurate, but I've got to say that their QC left much to be desired. However, their customer service is top notch and will be happy to fix anything (caused by them) with no questions asked.
