I have a SA TRP in .45 ACP that I'm having some issues with.  I bought the gun brand new about 9 months agao and have put probably 400-500 rounds through it in all.  I have handloaded ammo that won't always feed, and sometimes even factory hollowpoints that will get jammed as well.  It will always feed factory ball ammo.  It will feed if I have a very tight crimp on the handloads, but I am thinking that it should feed just about anything I give it.  For what it's worth, I have an older SA 1911A1 govt model that I could throw any bullet in the mud and it would still feed every time.  Polish Feed ramps myself or send it back to SA to fix?  or is it something else?

Thanks

What mags are you using?

Does it jam with all your mags or only a certain few? If you can isolate it to just a certain mag then its the mag. Springfield will give you a call tag to ship back overnight for free. So what do you have to lose? Just make sure it is really a problem with the gun and not something else. My friend had the Champion....kept jamming. I told him it was the mags and he didnt listen. Sent it back to to factory and it was his mags...they replaced it free of charge. Use Wilson Combat 47D mags and you will be alright. Dont shoot reloads until your gun is broken in.

Polish the feed ramp.
Use known good magazines.
Make sure the extractor is tuned correctly.

Way to little information for any kind of educated guess.

I would first look to the mags the mags that came with my TRP were nothing special.  They work but they are not Wilson's or Tripps.

Remove the barrel and chamber check your ammo.   If the ammo drops into the chamber without sticking, look elsewhere.   If the ammo is sticky, you may have to increase your crimp or invest in a Lee Factory Crimp die to get full length resizing.  Chamber reaming is also a possible fix, but I'd work on getting the ammo to spec first.

Springfield sends out their lower-end 1911s with improper extractor tension all the time.  I'd hate to think this was also happening on the TRP, as you'd think tensioning the extractor would be one reason the TRP costs twice as much as a Loaded, but it couldn't hurt to check.

Whoops forgot about that mags.   I have both the ones from SA and also several Wilsons.  Same result with handloads and also hollowpoints

I have four Springields including a TRP and a Pro and none of them work reliably with Wilson mags. They're not grossly unreliable––maybe one misfeed per 25 rds.  Factory ammo and reloads.  From postings in other 1911 forums, its apparent that my experience is not that unique, although the majority of shooters appear in love with Wilson mags. My SAs are reliable with all of the other magazines I own which include at least a few of most  of the popular brands.

Good to know, maybe I'll buy a couple Tripp's for a comparison.  There, found a reason to buy more gun gear!!

I would also encourage trying Wilson magazines.  They have worked flawlessly for me.

I'd guess it was a crimp issue also.

I had some handloads that would not feed in my Kimber. A quick adjustment of my crimp and all my troubles went away... Well, that one, anyway.
