I'm having a SA Champion refinished. I have a choice of DuraCoat which will give it a flat black finish or TR gunKote which is a satin finish. I don't know much about either. Which do you recommend?

Norrell's...I know that it's not your list, but it goes on smoother, thinner and wears better.

Where are you in Indiana?

I can refinish it for you in Norrell's flat black.

Here is a Springfield Champion I did. Flat black on the slide and controls and Colt Gray on the frame-

I thought Gunkote is available in matte black also? Don't know about norells going on smoother, but I recently refinished my 1911 with Duracoat in matte black. It went on smooth, and actually smoothed out the more it cured really nice.

Norrell's isn't an option. The guy is calling the Gun Kote satin. To me that sounds like it has a shine. Maybe not. Ifit has a shine to it, I'll just go with the Duracoat.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't put Duracoat on a handgun.  The finish is simply not very tough.

Well from my day of finding information I have read where every one of the finishes can fail. It comes down to prep. Duracoat takes time to cure. Norrells is a molly resin base that is heat cured. Gun Kote is heat cured. Every finish had a ton of good ratings and some bad. Duracoat can be done at home but thats not what I'm doing. I'll leave it to the guy that does it for a living to decide.

If it helps you, the Armory Kote finish on TRP's are considered "satin" and they don't have a shiny finish.
