Hi there,
Who all makes a officer frame on a commander(4.25") slide? I have my eyes on Nighthawks T3, but at $2500 i'd like to see what else is available. Today i've been checking out Colt's combat commander, however, I'm a little unsure if I want to go with the longer Government frame. I've owned a Para CCW which is a superb carry pistol although I didn't like how the bottom backstrap corner poked my palm. I was thinking about maybe going with a officer frame and adding a magazine well so my palm has a bit more room. Whaddya' think? Thanks |

Good call. Now i'm looking at some of Ed Browns pistols. Take a look at the Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail (2009 model). This year they will have a massive price increase. Also consider the Fusion Pro-S bobtail. You can get them for around 1500-1600, but there's a long wait. Also, on the same level as the EB Executive/Kobra carry models, Volkmann custom makes a nice bobtail. |

How do the bobtails feel? Is it more a issue of reducing ergonomics to gain better concealment or does it increase both ergo's and concealment? I'll probably have to find a bobtail locally so I can make sure I like it before I fork down the cash.
Is the V-Bob worth the price increase? |

Concealment is slightly better and not as much of the frame will be poking you in the side. Dan Wesson is going through some changes this year. According to what I hear, the V-BOB will completely replace the existing bobtail. The old Bobtail used a cast frame and slide, in addition to a few MIM parts (as well as tool steel EB parts). The Valor series uses a forged frame and no MIM at all. The Valor series also features more hand-fitting, as evidenced by a few who have stripped them apart. From what I hear, the Valor, both full size and bobtail commander, will be offered in the Armor-Kote type finish and stainless. The real price for the Valor should be around 1300-1600 for stainless, and 1600-1900 for the black finish. The MSRPs are always a few hundred high. Is it worth the price increase? IMO yes, at least for the stainless. The extra attention the V-series gets goes a long way. That says alot, because even their "cheaper" pistols are extremely well done. I have yet to see how durable the new black finish. Not sure if that's really worth the extra $300. I like the stainless look anyway. |

Should I avoid the MIM parts? Do you know which parts are MIM so I could replace them if necessary? Is the cast frame/slide a big deal? I'd like to go with the V-Bob since it's parts are of a higher quality, but the C-Bob at a $1000 seems so right.
Does the C-Bob feed hollow points? Thanks Rocco, you've been a great help |
