My shop finally got a Combat Elite in stock that didn't exhibit any of the usual cosmetic defects, so I snapped it up.  Fortunately they were having a bit of a sale, which made it even sweeter.

I've considered one of those myself. But all the cosmetic defects you mentioned made me hold off.

From the pics that one looks good. No slide overhang that I can see so that's a good start. Congrats!!

What's a good price for that?

I think a good price would be $850-950.  I paid about $950 for mine, but it was well worth it to be able to inspect it first.

I have bought more than a few new Colt 1911s in the last five or so years and only one had any cosmetic defects and I corrected that situation myself.
I have never had the "slide overhang" issue on any.

I don't recommend buying any pistol or rifle without thoroughly inspecting it for defects, no matter who made it. YMMV

I have a new Combat Elite and it is an outstanding pistol with NO (as in NONE) defects.

I'm confused...who was having a bit of a sale?  The gun store or the liquor store?  Or are they the same place?  Buy one Colt, get a 750 free?

Congrats either way!

Nice Colt, I have one on order, ok its been on order, but I guess its worth the wait?  Once I get it, its off to my smith for a ambi safety and maybe front strap checkering.

Very fine looking pistol, mine did not have any defects either. I just wish that I could shoot half as good as mine does.

Hopefully I can remedy things a bit.   I have no "E" to contribute, except maybe a sparkler or two leftover from New Year's Eve.

Yeah, it seemed like at first, everytime I turned around there was a new thread about someone not happy with the cosmetics on their new CE. Especially on M1911 forums. So I held off in hopes that Colt would correct the QC issues before I bought.

Looks like they've taken care of that. Of course, it wasn't all inclusive. Several posted that their's was fine, but there was way more that complained that made me cautious.

Besides the slide overhang what other issues are there to look for on these. I was looking at one this weekend, brand new, they wanted 1k for it.

The plunger tube on many Colts is not mounted properly. My Combat Elite plunger tube was drooping down. Whoever did try to install it, impinged the plunger tube, that the spring divot was not contacting the slide stop, and it was loose and non-functional as well. Also, the dust cover was contacting the frame, and scratching it on both sides. And finally, one of the grip spacers had material lingering into the mag well from being poorly installed, so a magazine would not drop free, and was hard to insert. That thing was a wreck. It was quickly DX'ed. Not to say Colt hasn't had a better day, like with the one above.
