In November I purchased a slightly used Springfield M1911A1 Milspec Stainless pistol. The only defect was an idiot scratch. I replaced the ILS with a nice serrated Les Baer flat mainspring housing and put a pair of Hogue rubber palmswell grips on. I'm using Wilson Combat 47D magazines.
I started looking at what I would like to change or upgrade on the pistol and wound up with something fairly close to a TRP in features. Not taking money into consideration, would it be better to trade the Milspec in on a TRP or to send the Milspec in to Springfield's Custom Shop for the same treatment? In other words, will the Custom Shop upgraded gun be better than a 'stock' TRP? Thanks! Tom (Tachyon) |

This is hard to say because the SA shop will be all hands on custom work the TRP is some what custom but not complete hands on. I personally would send the pistol to SA Custom shop because you will have a gunsmith doing all the work to the pistol. Plus you can get some options changed how "YOU" want them different from the TRP so it will be a gun for you not a production gun built for everyone.
You cannot go wrong having a pistol built for you. Plus you can do different stuff like going GI rod vs the FLGR 2piece, trigger tuned how you want it, finish you want, etc etc. |

You can also have them do a 25lpi front strap instead of the sharp 20lpi setup. I would definitely send it to Springfield for the work, best thing to do is call the Custom shop and tell them what you want and how much money you have to play with, they can give you some good ideas too. |
