OK.  I want something very simple.  I have a messed up Colt Commander (I won't bore you with the details of how screwed up this gun was from the factory) that I want to spend about 1000 bucks on to make it into a reliable CCW piece.  I need to know who does simple work at a decent price so I can get her in shape to carry?  I want a good trigger job, lowered ejection port, extended safety, reliability package, match grade bushing, beavertail grip safety, basic dehorning (not a full melt), and have the slop taken out of the slide to frame fit.  I already have the Milt Sparks VM2 holster to go with her but need to know which gunsmith can do all of the above for under a grand?  Please help me get my Colt tuned up.

The reason I am asking for help is that most of the packages I see cost more than my fucking truck.  I just need to know who is really good at 1911 work and can get the above done for under 1000.  The last time I spent a thousand dollars on a 1911 the asshole buggered it up completely.  Lesson learned...don't trust Johnny redneck to work on your 1911...or any gun for that matter.

Thanks.

P.S.- This isn't a Colt bashing post: I have just had bad luck with the 1911s from them I have owned.  Only .45 I have had perfect out of the box in my Springer MC Operator.  Go figure.

If we all knew who did amazing, perfect work for cheap, we'd be lucky to get our guns back before we're dead.

LOL!   Yeah I know that when I do find this magic genie he will make me wait until about the time my CCW expires.  I just think it should be realistic to get the work I listed for under a 1000.

Go to Springfield Armory's website and their custom shop has a price list for shop work. You can also google 1911 gunsmiths and some list prices too. Be prepared to go over-budget as they may have to do work you don't anticipate. Novak's also does piece-work.

I was looking at having some work done a couple years ago and contacted numerous smiths. They either didn't do piece-work or they had a long backlog. My Colts run fine and I have a local smith I trust to do most stuff I want done on 1911s.

Springfield appears to have the most reasonable prices and from what I've heard they do good work.

Call/ check out Novak's.  Not only do they make some of the finest sights available but Wayne and his staff are top notch smithies.  They have packages available as well as a la carte options.  $1,000 will go pretty far here.

My smith will do that. If your ever in my neck of the woods drop me a line and than get in line. I just dropped off a carry piece. Take me a month to get it back. Lucky for me I have more than one. Seriously what you are asking is like asking. "Hey anyone want to give me the winning lottery number's"
