| I'm in the market for a 1911 pistol, but I need some pros and cons. I'm tying to decide between a Dan Wesson Valor, SA TRP, Kimber Gold Combat II. |
|
Valor or TRP would be my number 1 choice the Kimber would be 3rd. I have a TRP Armory Kote 0 complaints 0 issues I would buy it all over again if I had a choice between the three. I would also buy the Valor if the opportunity arose. The Kimber I would shy away from because of the Swartz safety but do not get me wrong it is a nice pistol. The swartz safety is removable.
Which ones do you have available to you currently? |
| but what is your optimal price point? saying "no more than $2500" leaves alot of choices. At that price you are getting into LB, Wilson, NH etc. What will the pistol be used for? Out of the three that you have chose I would go with the TRP, but you could pick up a nice used Springfield PRO well under your max price |

I would like to get the best quality 1911 with a 5 inch barrel. |

For $2500 I'd go with something other than what you listed. Valor of the 3 +1 For $2500 I'd have a 'smith build one up from scratch to my specs. It would be a wait, but it would be better than any "off the shelf" gun. "Better" is pretty subjective. Function and accuracy wise....probably not. And most combinations of features can be found on a semi custom. Not trying to be argumentative, just present a different point of view. |

Maybe "better" wasn't the best choice of words, I should have said "exactly what the customer wants". When I ordered my Nighthawk they were very accomodating. However, at what point would Wilson, NH, or EB tell you to "take a hike" if you specified what exact internals, sight setup, frame, slide, cosmetics you wanted? For me, at this point if I'm going to spend that kind of coin on a 1911, I'll go custom and get everything I want. |

For $2500, I would go with an Ed Brown. Brown makes basically one gun with different variations like checkering or chain link stippling. He always uses his best parts in all his guns. Some of the other high end 1911 makers have two or three tiers of guns and their best parts cost more.
Now, of those you listed, I would get a Valor and would also be satisfied with the TRP. You don't have to spend $2,500 for a good quality 1911. When you spend that much, part of it is for cosmetics. |
