I hate to say it but it has been a long time since I shot a 1911; last time was actually back in the mid 80's and it was service pistol.  So I finally picked up my own, my first privately owned 1911 to boot.

Santa came early:

Damn, she sure feels good in the hand!

Damn fine weapon you have there . . . when are you taking her out to be fed?

Looks like I have to wait until after Christmas, so this weekend should do.  Will bring some visiting family with me also (I will supply the ammo so this may put a dent in my stash!).

That's a fine looking 1911!  Very nice Christmas present!

Give it a good 500 rounds before you make any decisions about reliability or thinking about stuff to change.  And I'm thinking the only change that you'll want to make is to put a bit of skateboard tape on the front strap for a little more traction.

My personal favorite magazines are the Wilson Rogers 47 eight round mags, with Chip McCormick Shooting Star 8 rounders running a close second.

Have fun with your new 1911, welcome back to the fold!

EXCELLENT choice!  Congrats!

note:  Don't be afraid of those SA mags.  They all run great in my SA 1911's.

Nice pistol other then the grips I love it.  Never been a fan of the cocobolo grips they are not grippy enough for me.  VZ makes some kick ass grips if you get into shooting it a lot you will love them I have Operators on 2 of the 3 1911's I have.

Damn dude....give the guy a break.  It's his FIRST 1911!  Hasn't handled one since the eighties!  It's Christmas for God's sake!

Truthfully, I'm kinda the same way about cocobolo grips.  But, when I acquired my SA Milspec SS...I changed my mind.  SA actually provides some pretty nice factory wood grips.  It was the first thing I was going to change, but was so impressed at the quality and the way they look on SS...they are staying.

Anyway, just wanted to make sure we stay on a positive congratulatory note here and not another grip discussion.  Way to go Recon!  Awesome and gorgeous pistol just as it is!

Oh, and Merry Christmas!  Really.

Stating an opinion I was not being negative I told him I liked the pistol just the grips are not my cup of tea.  I even went so far as to offer ideas on different grips if he did not like them.  The same grips came on one of my SA pistol and I did not like them.  Some of us like to run pistols factory some do not like me and I was offering an opinion.  IMO you need to calm down, relax, and not read so much into a post trying to find anger.  Plus if he has not been into 1911's since the 80's he might be welcoming of constructive opinions and new products since that time.

This.  (anger?  WTF?)

You are taking my comments with much more intensity than intended.  But, this is a common problem with casual written communications, i.e. e-mail, blogs, posts, etc.  Too often the absence of a tone of voice and any visual reference can leave room for too much interpretation.  What say we stop now and not further dilute the thread.  And for the record there Edge...I typically appreciate your posts.

Hey man I totally understand you on this I was trying to be sensitive and not step on the OP or your toes either.  I just thought you were getting angry at me offering an opinion.  No harm no foul we are all friends here and I understand sometimes we can misinterpret each other.

Ohh yeah OP sorry me and Kittyhawk ripped off your thread.  I do hope you post up a range report on your new SA 1911 congrats again on your pistol.  We are all itching to  know how the piece shoots I am sure.

I think that the Springfield stock wooden grips look really nice but am thinking about getting

a set of rubber grips for myself to increase comfort when doing a lot of shooting.

Roger that my friend.  And apologies to the OP as well.  I too will look forward to hearing about the first time out with the new 1911.

The grips appeal to me for looks; a few trips to the range will decide if they stay (hopefully).

This may not be the pinnacle of 1911's, but certainly a nice one, and compared to the old gub't issue ones it is the pinnacle!!! LOL

I didn't want adjustable sights, I like adjustable on a strictly target plinker.  If it is something I may carry, I don't like adjustable.  Night sight would have been nice and may be added later.

You can always get different grips I have a box with a multitude of different grips for being a show off, function, or carry.

Your pistol may not be the pinnacle but it will serve you well.  Sometimes that ol govt look is nice to when you just want something simple.  Night sights also are always nice and like you said can be added later.
