I recently picked up a 1911 commander bobtail from my FFL and I noticed that the trigger was loose.

We're talking that it has zero spring tension and rattles when I lightly shake the gun.  Is this normal?  If it is normal, what is the logic behind it being so loose?

Thanks

Might want to tweak the leaf spring to increase the trigger tension.

the trigger just slides back and forth in a channel. The sear spring has a finger to push the trigger forward. You could get an oversize trigger and file to fit for side to side and up and down movement If it bothers you.  I've got a Colt that a GS fit trigger just drops right in w/ play.

I purchased and fit an Ed Brown trigger for a Springfield I've been tinkering with, and the trigger did the same thing. Back and forth play before it touched the sear.

Ordered a Harrison Custom one, and it fits in there without play.

This is exactly what is happening.  It is a new gun so I'm probably going to send it back and have it fixed by the manufacturer.

You can get a sear spring from Sarco that has 4 leaves rather than 3. Normally one pushs the sear, one pushs the disconecter and one pushs the grip safety, but on the 4 leaf model, the extra one pushs the trigger for a tight feel.

Now, IMO, that would just give you a heavier trigger pull. I imagine a smiff putting it in for a picky customer like you, just to make it feel right to you. Personally, I wouldn't worry. I think you can bend the rear of the trigger to make it bow out so it would have a longer OAL? That'd kinda "fix" your "problem". ie; I don't think there is a problem, but whatever.

are you talking about a danwesson bobtail?  i've noticed this as well on cbocb's, and other dw's.  one of the reasons i went with springer.  :)

No, it is a Fusion.  I was thinking about sending it back to have them fix it but if it is normal I won't worry about it.  My other 1911 is a Kimber and it doesn't have that problem.

Also, I don't want to deal with the hassle of sending it back

Thanks for the insight.

yeah, some 1911 makers fit the triggers loose for some reason.

Normal or not, I don't like the trigger rattling around in my gun.
