Have thought about building my own 1911 for years. Had a shot at a good part's gun. But the deal fell through. Walked into a local smith's shop and he had a Kimber slide off a Custom II for 75 bucks. Well I picked it up. It may take awhile. But piece by piece I'll get there. Told my CFO iwas building it for her.......She is going along with that idea even though she know's better

SO....... What do you plan to build or what is the question you were wondering????  That was a mistake telling the wife it is for her.  If it is pretty she will take it away.

I have a Para P14 bought during the Clinton years. I wanted Hi cap. I learned to shoot on 1911A1's that had seen better day's. I just want a single stack thats reliable and a good ccw gun. With night site's. I'm leaning towards a Caspian frame. This is just something I have wanted to do. I guess my only question at this point is how well will the Kimber slide work towards this goal.

Kimber slides are good slides finding sights for them may be a pain in the ass but not impossible.  I would replace the MIM parts on the slide but that is no big deal.  You can add and ambi safety and some other goodies.

here is my Kimber I did a lot of work to.

The guy who sold me the slide beat the crap out out of the rear sight trying to change it out. I took it the rest of the way off today. So a rear sight is on the list of thing's to do. I also took out Kimber's version of the series 80 firing pin block and am now wondering what to do about the hole it left.

Kinda figured as much. Has anyone come up with a plug to keep crap out of the firing pin hole?

Not to my knowledge. It doesn't seem to affect my Custom II at all, I just clean as usual after shooting (but that always includes the firing pin and extractor channels for me.)

I'm pretty meticulous about maintaing my firearm's. And with no negative feedback about this that I can find. I'm going to do nothing about the hole. I'll probably finish the top end on this project first and run it on my Para frame for a little while.

Many years and many rounds later, never a problem with the firing pin vent hole on my Custom II.

Well I picked up a Sistema for 375 and will be putting the kimber slide on that. As well as some other mod's. I'm really impressed with Sistema. Made on Colt tooling and every bit as good as colt IMO.
