I recently was given a Colt 1911 MK IV 80, with this he also gave me a .22 conversion kit. Anyone have any experience with these conversions. Should I just toss this kit to the side or is it worth converting only for range use??? Any help would be awsome.

Use the 22 kit!!

You can train all the mechanics, speed and accuracy for pennies.
After a long session of 22's, switch over to the 45 & work on recoil management.

.22 kits FTW!

It'll save you a fortune in ammo at the range - .22 is great for practice and much more affordable than .45

Enjoy!

What is the maker of the .22 kit? Some will not work in the series 80 line of 1911s without removing the FP safety lever.

Look at your series 80 1911 and see if someone pulled out the FP lever, if they have not, it will not work on it. I run mine on a series 70 frame and it works very well. Numrich has OEM parts off and on, not a bad thing to pick up a few odds and ends.

I run my Colt Conversion on a series 80 frame, and used this: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=13121/Product/1911_AUTO_FRAME_SLOT_BLANK

to replace the FP safety lever, etc. in the frame:

Definitely use the 22lr kit.  It will provide great inexpensive practice ( trigger control, breathing, etc.)

My Kimber conversion on Colt frame{WW11 repro,] is just the ticket for my 16 yr. old daughter   . Works well with cci mini mags . Whenever she is done i just slide the Colt frame on easy as pie .

Range report ....Shot the 22conversion today and had no problem with feed and function of Kimber conversion . it runs like a sewing machine in what sometimes is a troublesome caliber in semi auto . Good for a 16yr old girl but not quite my idea of a 1911 . As long as she likes it its  worth every cent . She tried a  Colt pocket hammerless in. 380 but didnt care for it prefering the 1911 . The Colt hammerless is better to me... so as you can see......its just a matter of preference in your value of the  22 conversion .

I shot the .22 conversion and had an issue with the loading of the weapon every third to fourth round jammed, any suggestions

Try a different ammo.

For instance, Rem Golden Bullet is very inconsistent. When I use it in my Colt Diamondback .22 revolver, some will drop right in, and others are a little too fat and require a push. When I also use it in my AR conversion and I get a lot of stovepipes, etc., I'm not surprised.
