I posted on the 1911 Forum but figured I'd ask here as well.

I am looking to my next build and was thinking of a Baer slide and frame but after asking I got a few replies that are not so good.
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with Baer frames?  If so, how were the holes and dimensions on the frame?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

You will have to do some fitting but that is with any build that you will have to do that.  Les Baer frames and slides are good quality if that is what you are wondering.  The holes and dimensions should be within spec that is with any quality or reputable brand but do  not expect to buy all the parts and them fall together.  Just expect some fitting but if you know about building a 1911 you understand that already.

I know there is fitting with a build, I am on my fourth, can't help myself.  Two have been with Caspian and they were great to work with but I have been informed that Baer frames have had holes out of spec and some not finished.

They are just so $$ that I don't want to regret using one on a build.

I bought my baer finished and there are indeed a couple of "out of spec and not finished" areas/ holes on the frame. So my one piece has all of the things you were informed about...but you can't tell until you take it apart or try to fit new stocks

I've built 3 guns from scratch using Les Baer 1911 frames and find them to be nothing but top notch.  Everything requires fitting on them as they are made very slightly undersized to allow the builder to build a tight pistol using whatever companies stuff that they so desire.  You will not regret it, but it takes more time.

Trumpet, read above posts.

I have also read posts from other individuals in the 1911 forum that they had trouble with the location of some holes. The SS hole was .007 low on the frame along with the hammer and sear pin holes not finished.

Trust me I'm not bashing as I want to use Baer for my next build but the replies I'm getting are making me hesitate.

I may have to get the frame and see for myself as long as I can return it if it is not right.

Ed Brown used to use Les Baer frames and slides.
You'll be good to go with Les Baer's frame and slide.

+1 on that. I had to do some dressing on the new grips to get them to where they didn't look cockeyed on my TRS.

Fitting included a little lapping of slide and frame, fitting the thumb safety.Staking the plunger tube, staking the grip screw bushings, and fitting the

I had used colt slide parts that i used in the slide(firing pin, hammer stop plate, barrel links)
The Wilson Combat fire control parts i used drop right in with NO fitting required ! And work so great i stripped a few other fire control parts from other 1911's and dropped in the same Wilson parts in them and they work so much better !

By the way, specializedarmament.com does sell Brand New Colt 1911 frames for $399.00 stripped, you just have to call them direct and arrange it if you want one.The Big Gun show of the year(SAR SHOW) in Arizona is december 3,4,5 . Specializedarmament.com will be there and will have on display every single part for all colt 1911's and Colt AR15's...all factory colt parts in one place ! The SAR show is the largest Gun Show in the western US,Alot of gun manufacturers will be there.

Almost forgot,finish on my guns was done with a home parkerizing kit from ;
http://www.parkerizingkits.com/index.html

Happy Smithing !!

PS;Get yourself a copy of"The Colt .45 Automatic-A shop manual" by Jerry Kuhnhausen-Volume 1,best shop manual to have, has tons of info and specs, great
reference manual to have !!! Has some Great Barrel installation info, all those things we have no clue about !

coltnut,
Thanks for the info.  I live in Ma. so the AZ show is out for me but it is nice to hear that you had 0 issues with the Baer frame.  I am selling a Champ here to fund my disfunctional need to build things and will order a frame soon.  Ill post and let you know how things turn out.
