I'm considering my 1st 1911 pistol. I'm looking at the SW1911.
Any comments on this model? I've read Jeff's review on Gunblast dot com and he seems to like it. I want to hear from you guys.... Trading at a local shop: My used SIG 220 W.German and a Ruger STD .22lr straight up, The pistol is used but barely. Thanks all, |

I've had "Frank" for a couple of years and love him. Fed him just about everything under the sun and never a fail after 3000+ rounds, and feels great.

The SW 1911's have gotten good reviews but they are generally forgotten among 1911 owners, mostly cause the SW departs from the old school typical 1911 formula.
It's a good gun, for the money there are other options we could offer you (just as additional options), but there is no reason why you shouldn't get the SW if you like it. |

What are the other options I should be considering for similar money???? |

I picked up a smith 1911 recently and took it out for a run yesterday..
all I an say is WOW, ran 50 rds of factory hollowpoint then ran 50 rds of hand loads that have been a bit too much for my fussy colt and kimber feeding wize. ran em all with out a hiccup or jam using all wilson mags. dead on accuracy, this came in excellent shape from a fellow who wasnt a handgun shooter and only had fired a box thru it, it is S/S, Novak sights etc,, pleasantly suprised in overall weapon CHEF |

Frank appears to be mans' best friend.... Thanks for the feedback. |

For that price range?: Springfield MC Operator Springfield TRP (used) Kimber Warrior Dan Wesson Valor (used) Dan Wesson Pointman Seven The S&W is nice, but I'd rather have any of these guns above. |

Mine's been back to Smith 4 times now ...
Seems to be working ok now after it's latest mishap ..... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3329/3626484155_42528ca9d5_o.jpg That doesnt appear to be the factory trigger, mine has round holes. ALso mine is stainless. I dont remember seeing a PD with a black trigger. |

ALso mine is stainless. I dont remember seeing a PD with a black trigger. It surely is a factory trigger. It came with the three hole trigger , that was way too loose. I sent it back and S&W replaced it with the black trigger that fell out . It has since been replaced by S&W with another black trigger |

If I were going to buy another mass produced 1911 at the moment, it would be a S&W.
So far they are the only company who has managed to make an external extractor work on a 1911...and it's suspected that was by accident because they recycled it from a 3rd gen gun. |

Thos guns listed above are at about a $400 higher pricepoint. I bought mine new for around $800. You find me a Valor or TRP for that & I'll buy 10 of them.
Mine had to go back for a guide rod plug that was too tight. S & W fixed & did an action job for me. Accuracy is exceptional for a factory gun & has been reliable so far. I will be replaciong some MIM parts for the hell of it & a new oversize trigger from EGW & trigger kit from cylinder & slide. The sloppy fit drives me nuts on the trigger. Seems this is common to all s & w 1911's however. On the external extractor issue....who knows. I bought one & it seems fine so far. We shall see. I was looking for a gun to replace my old colt as a range/comp gun & for the money, the smith had the best fit & finish of everything I looked at (at the $800 mark) some of the springfields I looked at were truly dismal (machining marks, rough edges etc.) |
