I'm looking to buy a 1911 style .45. I've read things here and there about Para Ordinance,
so from this part of the hive mind, is buying a Para ordinance a sound idea, or do I spend
more for another brand? particularly, I'm looking at a 4" model for concealed carry.

First one I bought was a lemon.  After 3 returns for factory repair, the factory and I agreed that another pistol would be sent to me.  That one was a jewel.  Excellent workmanship, very accurate, and I loved the LDA trigger.

I've handled but have not shot the GI Expert, so I know this doesn't answer your question.
But I love the look and feel of it. The black shiny finish is very nice (don't know what it is), as opposed to the parked SA GI.

Don't know the price of the Para or how their CS is, if needed, but it's hard to beat the Springfield GI or MilSpec.

Let us know what you decide, and give us a range report.

I've been looking hard at a SA GI, MilSpec and the Operator.
The Para I'm looking at is at Academy Sports (not that it really matters).
The price isn't bad for the 4" model. I need some input from Para owners.

I laughed at the guy who sold me his  Edge so he could purchase a Para TD model.  Now that was/is a POS.

Para's don't get much love around here, but my son and I are happy with ours. I have an early P-12 LDA, and he has a Para Carry. I bought mine for concealed carry, but find it heavier than I like.

Ordnance - as in arms

Ordinance - as in laws

I once dated a girl with a Para-Ord LTC. It worked fine, fit and finish was good, some of the parts were obviously MIM and cast and cheap. I wouldn't ever buy one.

Springfield Mil-Spec is a much better buy.

That's what I needed to know. Thank you very much!
