I am buying a 1911 and DC has a very limited list of what can be registered. I went to the range today and they had a PB9108LP for sale, but the DC list only has the PB9108. I was wondering what the difference is between the two.

I believe that the PB9108 (no letter suffix) was the original model number for the Mil-Spec.  The "L" suffix was added when the model was updated, and the "P" just refers to accessories packaged with the pistol and has nothing to do with the pistol model.  The current package being sold  is the PB9108LP––an excellant choice by the way. I wouldn't pretend to guess whether's DC's approval of the PB9108 extends to the PB9108LP by default but perhaps Springfield's Customer Service  @ 800-680-6866 could help or direct you to someone or agency that can. California's approval process is fanatical about the model numbers being EXACTLY as listed on their approval list, and DC's could be the same.  Not the kind of thing you'd want to guess about.

This is the same thing in Cali, I'm not sure about FFL's in DC. But my FFL uses common sense and knows that the extra letter is for "package" and would go ahead and do the transfer/dros, don't know about other FFL's though.
