I am confused.   pretty much made up my mind to buy the first valor or rz that I come in contact with.  Stopped at the gunshop today & asked if the had any DW 1911's, Yep had a pointman 7 for $700.  Not exactly what I wanted but that was a hell of a deal....until I saw it.   What a freakin disaster, I'm not sure when this was produced but the fit & finish was horrible, not sure what in the hell kind of extractor was in there but I was able to turn it around backwards by putting my thumb on th back of the slide & twisting.  The slide left about 1/8 inch of the frame exposed back by the hammer....it goes on.   It only had the DW initials on the slide so I'm hoping this was an early model/knockoff... somebody explain the diff in quality. I am clueless.

Thought dan Wesson had thier crap together??

DW denotes Dan Wesson mfg, CZ is used post take over. Quality of the DW 1911's was always top notch. Since this gun is used what did the previous owner modify or generally screw up on the gun? NIB blame the mfg, but used you can't tell who did it.

Thats shocking.  My favorite gun is my DW PM7-  I've had it less than a year, but its top notch.  Tight fit, great options, and accurate.  I've put about 1,000 rounds in it since August and its been 100% reliable.  I'm guessing the one you found has been messed with and somebody is trying to claim its NIB.

If it was NIB then it is at least 2-3 years old. CZ bought them at least that long ago and started with the CZ prefix.

Find a Valor. It wll be well worth your money. I think there's one for sale in the EE right now

I don't think he meant that the serial # started with DW, but that the DW logo was printed on the left side of the slide.

PM-7 would have been post CZ buyout.

If I were you, I would point these things out to the dealer so they can send it back.  As stated above, sometimes companies send out turds, but they should be made aware of such things, especially if they are as bad as you described.

Must be it. The DW was on the slide.

I did point it out to the guy behind the counter but he just shregged it off.  He is kind of a goober anyway.  There is absolutely no way this thing will run for long & I'm sure DW would be glad to get the damn thing back just so no one else saw it.  I'm headed back next week anyway, the shop owner is helping me ID some old guns brought back from WW1.

Have to check out the valor in the EE!

One doesn't 'slip out' of the factory when there is a good QA program.  If it has those kinds of obvious flaws why didn't the gun shop return it?  Something doesn't add up.

It does happen, Ive even seen some 1911s from one man "name" shops that while cosmetically perfect wouldnt run worth piss as well.

Best thing for someone to do though is not write off a company on one example.

If I knew how I would raise the BS flag! I have yet to see a POS DW! Everyone I have talked to loves them and has nothing but good things to say about the quality.......

ETA: But I am just a newbie!

No BS. This thing is crap.

Other Dan Wessons I have seen or fondled have been about as close to a custom as could be.

Apparently this is pre CZ & it sure does make a difference.

I don't get how junk can get out the door or why a shop owner wouldn't return it to his wholesaler.  However, I don't get lots of things.

OP.. if you find out any more about how this pistol ended up on the shelf when it shouldn't have left the factory, let us know.

I have a Valor.  It's pretty much everything everybody says it is though it's only my second 1911 and I don't have a broad base to compare to.  When I was researching the purchase I never found a negative comment which is pretty rare for any production pistol.  I paid $1355 NIB a couple of months ago.  Got it from Big Sky Guns. Don't know how often they get them in but they were great to deal with.  Pistol looks good with ivory.

That just doesn't sound right.....from what I've seen, and heard....DW's seem to be on the upper end when it comes to fit and finish.  It's rare that you ever heard about a DW that looks like hell, and has been thrown together and not fitted well.

Here is my CBOB......I would say it's got a pretty good fit and finish.

Funny thing is......I bought this as one of the "blem" guns that DW lets certain dealers sell. I'm still trying to find the blem on it though...I think I did good

"not sure what in the hell kind of extractor was in there but I was able to turn it around backwards by putting my thumb on th back of the slide & twisting. The slide left about 1/8 inch of the frame exposed back by the hammer"

Are you sure? Pretty wild-ass claims. I've never seen either on ANY 1911.
And I've seen plenty.

I've seen plenty as well & I have no clue what they stuck in there for an extractor.

I ended up going with a plastic compact in 9mm for IWB CCW.. but man.. those CBOB's are *really* nice.
