well i went to a local auction to kill the day and while i was walking through i found a very cool 1911. it was a colt 1911 that was stamped US MILITARY. it was well worn and had little or no finish left on it. it came with a US stamped leather holster and 2 bandoleers. defiantly looked like it was all origional.

i was planning on bidding on the firearm till it shot passed my max bid. it ended up going for 1900$

wish i had my camera for pics but i didnt.

guess my question is what are these worth? ive never seen one before..

It might have been a good deal and then again, it might have been way over priced.  Hard to tell with out more info.

If one wants to get into collecting them, getting educated on the variations and what parts are appropriate for what years will save a person lots of money and regrets.  Charles W. Clawson's books are invaluable in this regard.

About $1200 in good condition.  But, and this is a huge BUT, there are several variants that are very collectible, without pics and a very detailed description we really have no way of assigning a value.

yeah sorry for the lack of info. i own a springfield and have changed out some parts on it and thats about the extent of my knowledge on the firearm.

what would have made it a good deal and what would have made it a bad deal?

EDT: what does one look for when assessing a collectible 1911?
