Found an AMT .45 1911 made in FL for $400.
Shop claims that it is reliable and accurate…
It is NOT the longslide…
Should I bring it home?
What says the hive mind???

There are probably decent AMTs out there.  I have yet to see one that I would own, even if it was free.  I'm not that pick about 1911s, as most can be made to work.  To me, they are about as poor quality as a gun can get.

Almost any 1911 is better than an AMT. I looked at one that the barrel bushing wouldn't come off of. For the money, I'd rather have a R.I.A.

My dad bought one in 1978.  Still has it.  That "ONE" has been a great pistol.  Very accurate and reliable.  I bought one in the mid 80's that was a piece of crap.

Coin toss.  The first ones they made were the best.

Run away fast. Someone somewhere has one that works, this one probably isn't it.

you can take a chance, but be prepared to dump a couple extra hundred dollars to make run right.

I bought one new years ago.  It was always jamming.
The factory said to use a home brew lube for it (IIRC, white grease and STP?).
I worked on it constantly.  I had it feeding empty cases out of the magazine, but it still jammed.
I sold it and bought a SA GI model that's been perfect.
