I found two Colt 1911's used and was wondering if either is a go or no go I have never owned a Colt 1911 I am not familiar with the models they make.  Which ones are worth a crap and which are awesome.
First is a Colt Gold Cup Trophy for $895 SS
Second is a Colt Combat Elite MK IV for $895 Bi-tone
Pretty sure the price is negotiable but also tell me what you think they are worth.  They both look like they are in good to excellent condition with normal wear and normal usage marks.

I am looking for a Colt "specifically" what say everyone give honest opinions please.

Combat elite is a desireable 1911 - I would pick it up if the price / condition is right........

Gold Cup is a competition pistol or supposed to be..... I don't have one and have never shot one...... yet.
Combat Elite... I have one Mark IV and two XSEs. I have a love affair with these and is the reason I don't own a Gold Cup.... which by the way the Mark IV Combat Elites are called the poor mans Gold Cup.... Between the two I'd have a hard time making the choice...... aahh screw it, buy'em both.

ETA: What they are worth... In today's market they are priced plenty high. I wouldn't pay over 700.00 for each.

Today's market is priced by buyers.  Sellers can ask as much as they want.  Until the buyer says yes, the price is too high.  If you want a CGC or a Combat Elite and are willing to pay the ticket, you can have one.  If not, you can be like me, with Springers and IMIs and Paras.

Well I have a SA TRP Armory Kote and a Kimber SS Target II.  I am really dead set on getting a nice Colt 1911 just I am no expert by any means on the Colt 1911.

I love my SA I just feel a need to have a Colt.  I think I have a serious problem but one that is a good problem.

I wouldn't want a Gold Cup.

They use a wide trigger which is tough to find replacements for.  The older ones also used an extra sear lever and spring for safety reasons.  Then there are the Elliason sights, which were notorious for breaking and used a proprietary sight cut.  They're also set up with 14 # spring for target loads.

They made a Combat Target model for a year or two in 1996-97, which had the same features but had a matte finish.  This was the true "poor man's Gold Cup."  I owned one for a while but it wasn't long before I decided I'd rather have something else.

I would prefer the Combat Elite, though I'm not really a fan of two-tone finishes.  The current production run of Combat Elites has a true beavertail, which by itself would make it more desirable for me than the older ones.

Thank you for the info Ken it gave me some more insight into this.... I think I am going to stick to trying to find me an XSE.  I can wait for it I waited to find the TRP I wanted plus the funds increase for the pistol as the weeks go by.
