Quick/dumb question.  What is the proper way to assemble the firing pin with the spring.  I have one person telling me insert the pin through the big end and another telling me the opposite.  I always though you should put it through the small and and push it on.

All mine have always "stuck" to the pin upon assembly so I'll go out on a limb and say that youre the one thats correct.

I agree...

I have always remembered "unscrewing" the spring from the pin

Edit... Look at pg 14  here under firing pin removal

Absolutely, the small end ALWAYS is placed on the FP first.

so how much damage can be done if it is put in wrong.

Not much, spring can get stuck inside the hole and the spring MIGHT ride over the lip of the retaining end after a long time but I still doubt it would do any actual damage.

The small end is there to aid in disassembly.  Don't sweat it if you went the other way.
