Hivemind - Starting from scratch, what basic 1911 would one use to start a MEU(SOC) build. If it doesn't have front cocking serations on the slide, what would be the solution to getting them there? Smith or replacement?

Well, not all MEUSOC builds have front serrations...

I'd start with a Springfield Milspec, it's basically what they do.  If you want front cocking serrations Springfield will mill them in at their custom shop.

Hell, my favorite MEU SOC builds are the ones that pattern the older ones WITHOUT the front cocking serrations. To each his own.

If you want to do it like the originals, you get a WWII GI frame then a SA slide.  There's actually a good Wikipedia article on it with all various parts and iterations.  Apparently they used Caspians for some.  If I can't find a WWII frame to start mine, I'll probably get a caspian.

Fusion is who I would choose for a MEUSOC build. I have thought about what it takes from an Operator's point of view. Looked at Springfield, Colt, STI, and Caspian, and the most logical to me is Fusion because of the many options offered to tailor to an Operator's specific tactical needs....

I bought a used SA Milspec from Gun Broker for my clone.  I don't have the time nor the skills to do the work myself, so I sent it off to the SA Custom shop.  They milled the front cocking serrations and of course did a great job, I'm one of those that prefer the FCS.  Are you going to do the work yourself?  Good luck with it and don't forget to post pics.
