Not to be a smartass, but just call Springfield.

No offense. I should have stated that in my op.

That was the first thing i did. They said they do not sell parts to their 1911's to public. I don't know how accurate that is, because i have read that others have bought 1911 parts from them, but that was her exact words. They said, they could replace safety parts free of charge at their facility, regardless of original owner. But i want this to put it on a Mil-spec.

Your frame will need to be  machined for a bevertail grip saftey to work and look good.

Some may still sell ones that require no frame altering, but they look like poop.

I recently read, that the grip safety from a SA 1911 Loaded will drop in my Mil-spec with very minor fitting.

Springfield has a huge investment in their people. Especially the Custom Shop. If you want a particular safety installed you will need to send your pistol to Springfield's Custom Shop. With the exception of magazines and parts for the M1A1 they don't sell parts to the public or independent distributors like Brownells at all. Brownells carries factory parts for most every make and model firearms. There are many companies that make and sell grip safeties. If it were me I would try matching what I wanted to a Brown, Wilson, Baer, Smith & Alexander, or EGW part.. Chances are one of those guys makes the GS for Springfield. I know I left out a few names too.

It is closer to the bottom of the article.

"What he didn't realize was that the Springfield Mil-Spec can just drop in a beavertail from a Springfield Loaded pistol; because the frames are machined on the same fixtures. Oh you'll need to do a little bit of final fitting, but it will fit quite nicely without that big gap."

Maybe i assumed a bit more.

You read wrong.  Just look at the pictures.  A Loaded has a .25" radius where the frame meets the beavertail.  The Mil-Spec uses a standard receiver tang, and would still need to be radiused and refinished.

Not as easy/simple as he suggests.

That sucks that they won't sell parts, but if they will do it for free send it in.

That is actually pretty close to the same (IMO - but then again, I play with stuff like 4.5" angle grinders on my 1911. )

It won't fit right.  Springfield Mil-spec and GI guns have a .220 radius cut, and the Loaded guns have a compound radius cut.  (and the one I had was sharp and nasty, but I'm told that was a fluke)

You can get a nice grip safety from Smith & Alexander with the .220 Springfield radius.

I have decided to go with a fitted custom grip safety.

thanks for the input.
