A question to any 1911 Guru out there..........my goal is to get full engagement of the slide stop into the corresponding notch in the slide.............unfortunately...........the back of the slide stop notch that prevents the slide stop from being pushed out unless lined up with the dissasembly notch in the slide was preventing the slide stop from going all the way up into the slide stop notch.............It is hitting the top of the opening cut in the frame...........as you can see in the picture this is my goal..........unfortunately, I took to much metal off of the back of the stop and now it can be pushed right to left without having to use the dissasembly notch........not good.

What is the trick here?  metal off of the frame where it is hitting.......?  Opening the with of the notch on the slide stop where the slide runs through it?  any advice would be appreceated.......thanks

There's always some gap as the stop needs some space to ride up vertically while the slide is in motion forward so it can engage it.  If the slide stop was not engaging 100% of the time, that's almost always a magazine problem, not a slide stop/frame/slide issue (unless you have a newer Para, in which case it's probably both a frame issue).

What kind of gun do you have, and what problem were you having?  Slide stops themselves rarely if ever require fitting.  There is plenty of tolerance in the design for almost all parts to drop in, unlike thumb safeties, etc.

Time for a new slide stop.

Engaging 100 percent.........the problem is the stop will not go fully into the notch in the slide...........in the picture it is because metal was removed from the back of the slide stop.............Caspian frame....my question is..shouldn't the slide stop fully engage the notch of the slide (as pictured).............no magazine problem..............

Take some metal off the top of the frame "window" and put a detent on the back of the slide stop so the plunger can keep it from drifting out.

from looking............the "Frame Window" seems to be the problem..........the detent part.......is beyond my capabilities.............know anyone that can do it............I wan't it to engage like it is doing in the picture.......but, I don't think my skill level is going to get me there..........thnx

Also.....I think if the frame section on top of the Window was removed it would work perfect.......(the slide stop).......just a hypothetical conclusion.........If the top of the window was removed, what would happen?

Nothing.  Colt cut that part out of a lot of their frames to eliminate the possibility of cracking.   Other 1911 makers also do this.  Here's a photo of a CQB, for instance.

However, this is kind of a drastic step to fix a problem with a cheaper part.  I seem to recall some frames having an issue with improperly located slide stop windows, and if that's the case, cutting the top of the window would probably be a good idea.

After trying to get the slide stop to engage properly..........I know it would work correctly.......if I cut the top of the Window out............I think I am going to do it.........

Did you cut the one in the picture or did it come from Wilson that way..........incidently that is a Wilson slide stop in the picture..........thanks...........steven

Came from Wilson that way, far as I know.

The tech I talked to at Wilson Combat said they cut the opening that way to make fitting of the slide stop easier..........I took the dremel to mine and then squared it off with a file............problem solved............
