A buddy of mine has a 1911 built in 1918. it is pretty dirty but functions nice other than the thumb safety doesnt engage fully. There is some rust on it but I think it clean up well. What do you think its worth?

There is not much to go on in that description, but WWI 1911s can sometimes go for quite a bit. TAG for other responses.

Realistically about $700-800 or so.
If its in as poor condition as you say the collectors won'y pay big.

Your description is worthless as far as pricing goes. Seriously, to have any realistic attempt made to price this with your description....................well, it ain't happening.

Pics, parts, partial SN#, finish............all that stuff makes a HUGE difference.

Also, lots of "mixmaster" guns are out there on Colt frames with other slides.  Dating the slide isn't the same as having a real Colt from 1918 (or other maker).  ID'ing and confirming the slide/frame and other parts are necessary to value it.  If it's a typical mixmaster with rust and mechanical issues, $200.  If it's a real Colt or other 1918 build as you described, maybe $500.
