I picked up a Springfield Champion for a very low price. I was finally in the right place at the right time.

My main concern is I have never looked into it, but which recoil spring does it take? Are the commander length springs easier to find?

OOOps, I meant about the recoil spring and the main spring in the slide. I am green still to 1911's.

I am tempted to sell it and use the money to get a col commander.

Champion is a great 1911. Did you get the loaded? It's built like the 70 series without firing pin blocks. I really like mine and you can't beat Springfields customer service. And yes, they will warranty the pistol even though you are not the original owner. You can find springs at Wolfe. Unless you find a 70 series Colt Commander, I'd stick with the SA. Also, if it is a loaded model, you have a bull barrel without a bushing. Should be more accurate. Mine is dead nuts.

I just got a Kimber 4 inch and love it.  They are a blast too shoot.

Recoil spring  is under the barrel
Mains spring  is in the mainspring housing below the hammer.

Wolff will have the recoil spring rates listed for your gun model. If it is a commander size.

Those Wolff springs above will work only if you have a barrel bushing type of recoil setup.  If you have a bull barrel, you're going to have to get a whole new (dual spring recoil) assembly from Springfield Armory.  Once you've found out which type of 1911 you have, there ya go.

Might add, if you have a bull barrel with a dual spring setup like from SA originally, it should be good for 12000-15000 rds. That is more than most people will ever shoot. Then you can order a new one from SA for about 35 dollars.
