I have an opportunity to have the Springfield Custom Shop place a ramped bull barrel in my TRP and wondering on what the opinions are here with the hive mind. Its going to be ramped regardless but the questions remains.....

Bull barrel or go simply with a fully ramped and supported Match Barrel with bushing?

When properly fitted, both give great results with accuracy. The only real advantages (between well-fitted barrels) is that the bull reduces muzzle flip and is quicker to strip. If that isn't important to you then go w the bushing.

I disagree on quicker to strip, I find taking apart the TRP to be a chore with the needed little take down pin.

edited to appease pulpsmack

I stand  corrected with respect to stripping a SA. I forget they have those stupid paperclip strip methods which make no sense.

But It would be awesome to have a choir doing my theme music while stripping my pistol.

Assume yall are referring to the pin needed for the spring asembly. Didn't realize SA bulls came equipped with that. That is for the info.

I prefer the pin or paperclip to having to use an actual too like an allen or torx wrench to field strip my pistol.  Best of all would be not having to use tools at all, so my vote is for the barrel and bushing.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when reassembling a bull barreled 1911, due to the method of recoil spring capture, don't you have to insert the slide stop with the recoil spring in, and therefore under tension?  If so, sounds like an incredible PITA.

Personally, I don't mind a FLGR, but won't ever have a bull barrel...

I own several bull barrels already and enjoy them. Main thing is to figure out what will go best in a TRP....both are Match barrels sooooo....going to mull it over the weekend and ship the gun Monday.

That's the procedure for my 4" and it's no more a PITA than slapping on a bushing wrench to torque a tight bushing on. In fact, it makes the stripping portion super fast because you pop out the SS and everything disassembles, instead of having to line up the bushing properly swing it back then forth (whoops it's back down in front of the spring again) etc.

For a bull barrel you could get a toolless guide rod from Dawson and not need a tool at all to take it down.

I've never found this to be any more difficult than reassembling my 1911 with the standard guide rod.

Go for the standard barrel and plug.
