What cause it? The only mags it doesn't happen with are my Wilson. GI mags have last round FTF every time. The round starts in the chamber but stops, hanging up the slide. Could it be mag springs. Has anybody changed springs and followers in GI mags with good results? Which followers?

Tell us more.  Gun make, model, size, ammo, etc.  With the minimal amount of information given, it sounds likely that you have a combination of weak mag springs, weak recoil spring, and excessive extractor tension, but who knows.  It could be one of the three, two of the three, or all three.  It might be something else entirely.

I would make sure all three are in good order.  The mag springs will have little effect if the other two are in good working order.  Make sure you have a fresh 16lb or higher recoil spring if it's .45ACP and a 5" gun.  Also make sure that you test the extractor for tension, and also inspect the profile.  Once both are in order, go shoot and see if there are any issues.  Good luck.

I have two Kimbers and a Springfield loaded. None of them like GI mags. I don't even bother trying to use them anymore. I use CMC, WIlsons, and even triple K mags without fail. My three 1911's hate GI mags, and refuse to allow them to feed em.

This problem was in my RIA GI 5" It's my truck gun. I pulled the extractor, tuned and polished it. Problem solved. I'll still get some Wolfe springs for the mags. I got them used so no telling how old they are.

You are using real vintage GI magazines, or something you bought recently?  There haven't been any "real" GI contract mags made in decades.  I am going to guess they are some foreign knock-offs?  Try Colt mags, or Checmate or Metalfom mags with hybrid feedlips and flat dimpled followers (they are the Colt OEM makers).  The problem with the knock-off Gi mags is usually the feedlips are inconsistent, and the rounded followers don't always work properly (plus weak springs).  basically, there's nothing really that works on them, even if you change the follower and spring.

There are conversion kits out there to fix worn mags or ones with bad followers.  Tripp seems to work well, and some like Wilsons' conversion kits, too.  Also try 7 round magazines, most people find them more reliable than 8 rounders, unless the 8 rounder has a lengthened body like the a few offer.

it sounds like your problem is that the round is getting free of the magazine too early, with the rim getting ahead of the extractor.  This can be because of springs, bad follower design or bad shape on the lips.
