If I am doing it correctly I measeured the vertical engagement of the barrel lugs to slide lugs to be .037" on my 1911A1 clone.
That doesn't seem like much. My pistol has many rounds thru it and the lugs are in good shape. How much VE can we expect from an entry level 1911A1 clone? Entry level being something less than the Ed Brown, Wilson and other hand fitted types. The more I learn about the 1911 design the more amazed I become. Depends on where the contact is. Usually the barrels radial grooves need cleaning up with a barrel lug file. Usually it's the sides of the barrel (in the grooves) that contact the slide that prevents the barrel from camming all the way up.
I've also seen where a bull barrel was too tight in the slide, a that prevented the barrel from camming up enough. Same could be said about a bushing that's too tight. There are other scenarios as well. Those are the most common. |
