I have a Kimber Pro Elite and while the gun shoots well and has never given me any trouble I hate the take down. I hate having to go find a paper clip to take it apart. If any of you guys were in my spot would you dump it for a Colt Commander? The only reason I hesitate to get rid of the gun is because it is a pre series 2 and they only made 2500 of these.

so you want to get rid of a totally reliable weapon because it's hard to take down..??

I just prefer the GI setup and a bushing. If I did sell it it wouldn't go far. My BIL wants it so bad it's not funny.

So put a USGI guide rod and recoil plug in. That's what I did with my TRP.

That would be a great idea, except that it's a shit one.
A Pro Elite isn't a TRP.
It has a big fat bushingless bull barrel that's directly fitted to the end of the slide nor is the inside of the slide cut to take a bushing.

You could send it away and have a pistol dynamics plug fitted: Like this one (not my gun BTWbut i wish it were)

or your other option is to buy a gun made for little old ladies or french people if sticking a piece of bent wire in a hole is too much of an effort for you.....

my Elite with my CBOB and my heavily modded 1991 Commander. I like some of the things that come standard with the Elite, nightsights, checkered frontstrap, a beavertail that had a bit of effort put into it's fitting, a sexy 2 tone finish etc. If you want the commander, prepare to give up some of that or pay almost the cost of the gun again to have it done nicely.

The only thing I don't like about my Pro-Elite is that when they "melted" it, they should have done it BEFORE they cut the checkering.

LOL I think it's a lot easier to find a paperclip around here than a bushing wrench.

i'd like mine better if it just wasn't melted.....

I see they reduced the amount of melt on CDPs a while back. Looks much better.....

I love the look of the older "melted" Kimbers. I have an early Custom CDP, its a great weapon.
