I had a few questions regarding which Wilson mags to get for my SA loaded stainless:

1) Which is best, the 47 series or the new ETM series?
2) Will a 8 rounder like the 47D work in my 1911 or do I need the 47A? Which is more reliable?
3) Will the SA loaded series accomodate all of the Wilson base pads? What's your experience with the different base pad sizes?
4) Where to shop for Wilson's?
5) Do the factory SA mags function OK for range purposes or do they just plain not work?

I like the armortuff 47D with low profile steel baseplate.

I could never get the 47D's to lock back the slide in my CQB.  I actually used the factory SA mags with a bumper pad on duty.  Those, Ed Brown's 7 rounders and 7-round Wilson mags are the most reliable I've ever used.  CMC Powermags (8-rounds) have been "ok."  For me, I'll stick to the 7-rounders.

I prefer the ETMs over the 47Ds. The basepad on the ETMs wraps around the bottom of the magazine tube - the result being a longer tube for the same OAL. This in turn results in much smoother (and easier) seating with a fully loaded mag on a closed slide.

The 47DCs are good too - unless you have a extended magwell like a S&A. In that case, the low profile basepads aren't particularly desirable, since they will sit flush or just-under-flush with the magwell. (The ETM basepads fit absolutely perfectly with a S&A, BTW.)

Until about 4 months ago all I used were the Wilson ETM's. I however bought several of the Tripp Gen II CobraMag 8-rounders and have now completely switched over and use them exclusively. Some of my 45's do not like the CobraMags but accept the ETM 8-rounders readily. Fortunately the two main carry guns eat both.

EDIT:

For clarification....when I stated some of them do not like the Cobra Mag 8-rounders...I mean I have to slap that little bugger in there....HARD. No issues shooting them.

I carry Wilson 8 rounders with extended base pads, on duty. Never had a problem with them , or CMC Shooting Stars. I have complete confidence in both.

Haven't had any problems as of yet with my 47Ds... have been through maybe 40 of them.

I've had very good luck with the ETM's.

They function perfectly in my Combat Commanders and my NMGC.

I had an issue with a 47D.  Contacted Wilson.  Even though I had not purchased the mag from them, without any hesitation they offered to take a look at the mag and replace it if it was defective, or to send me a new spring and see if that resolved my issues. They did not ask the age or condition of the magazine.  I chose the replacement spring.  It fixed the problems.  This was all done at no cost to me.  Big +1 for Wilson CS.
