What do you guys use on your 1911's- grease or oil?  Or maybe grease on some parts and oil on others?

I usually oil the barrel and barrel bushing, and the lugs on the barrel....and grease the rails and everything else.

It says in my Kimber manual that "grease is not recommended".

In the past I've used both.

Now I just use oil - FP10 or Weaponshield, specifically.

You'll commonly hear it said, "Oil evaporates off my CCW gun too quickly."   I've noticed a film of oil on my CCW even after two months, so it stays on the gun long enough for me.   Same thing for my guns that stay in the safe... still oil on them after 6 months.

It's also easier to relube the gun during a filthy range session.  I just squirt a few more drops on, and the fouling stays in suspension instead of caking up.

I wouldn't have a problem using grease if that's all I had, but it's a mess to deal with and won't migrate to the internals very effectively.

I have traditionally used CLP pretty much on everything and just a bit of grease on the rails and lugs, especially in hot weather. However, I have recently started using Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil instead of the grease. It handles friction and high temps well and it stays pretty much where you put it. It seems good for all the kind of weather I'm likely to ever see. If you use a traditional type lube, run it a little on the wet side, especially the first few hundred rounds.

I use both.

White lithium grease on the rails, locking lugs and recesses. Weapon Shield on everything else.

I grease all major parts. Oil on all internals. Grease seems to smooth the action out real well

Light coat of standard old white grease followed with a spritz of gun oil to thin it out a little has always worked great for me

oil 90% of the time for every thing.,

10% I'll use tw25b (grease) on just about every part.

some use grease for the rails and oil everywhere else.

Potato vs. Potatoe ................ I prefer a light film of grease.
