I hope I can explain this well enough, but the extractor broke on my Taurus 1911, and I'm having trouble.
I refuse to send it back to Taurus, because I've delt with their CS before, so I bought a Wilson Combat extractor from the local gunshop. I think it's what would be called a Series 80 style (it has the cut out in the extractor to accept the plunger/pin that blocks the firing pin). After installing the new extractor, plunger, FP, and FP Stop, the plunger does not stay in; that is, if you turn the slide over, the plunger and the plunger spring falls out. There's a small shoulder for lack of a better term (or lack of knowledge) inside the cut-out in the extractor where the plunger sits. I notice this shoulder/ ledge is larger (a little more pronounced) on the original extractor than on the Wilson. Is this what holds the plunger in or am I missing something else? If so, is there a fix for this, or am I doomed to another Taurus extractor. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you must bash the Taurus, please try to also offer some help and I'll be ok ETA: I don't want to do it, but what would happen if I ran it without the plunger? It seems to dry fire ok without it. Would it be the same as a pre-series 80? Thanks, a-bare |
| If you want to run "pre 80" you will need to get a blank from brownells. This blank will replace the 2 levers in the frame and allow for trouble free operation. I ran a "80 series" lower on a "70 series" upper. the gun would double/triple. this had to do with that little lever sticking up from the frame. Once I got the blank and removed those 2 levers all the problems went away. |

What is a blank, and what does it do? Thanks, a-bare |

SGB,
Your sig line is in the way of the Quote button. Is the 'Frame Slot Blank' the way to go? I'm all for it, and assume it's safe. Any reason I should not do it? And does my original post make any sense at all. Is the Taurus extractor propietary popriet exclusive to Taurus, or just off-spec? Thanks, a-bare |

Quoted: Is the 'Frame Slot Blank' the way to go? It's what I'd do. I've never kept a firing pin block assembly in any Colt or Kimber that I've owned. Is the Taurus extractor propietary popriet exclusive to Taurus. Shouldn't be as it's a copy of the Colt Series 80 firing pin block assembly. I'd tend to believe it's more a poor qc parts problem. Your sig line is in the way of the Quote button. ![]() |

Thanks. I've learned a great deal reading this forum. And your sig line is no longer in the way of the quote button. a-bare |
